At Untable Magazine we tell you how to prepare a stage and achieve a good image in work meetings or study meetings via Zoom, Whatsapp or Skype.

Get ready:

Technical testing. Do a camera and sound test on the device you are going to use. Test with a family member or friend how to use the application (Zoom, Whatsapp, Skype), before having the work or study meeting. Try using headphones with a built-in microphone. I know the options  the platform.

Lighting. Your face should look well lit, without shadows. For this, you can use an additional light source, such as the flashlight of your cell phone. The ideal is a light that bounces off a white background and provides an intense but diffuse lighting on your face.

Background. Find a neutral environment, or a space in the house that is pleasant and with few elements.

Clothing. Take care of your complete look: dress according to the meeting, from head to toe, even if you think that your shoes will not go on stage. It's all part of the online presence. A plain shirt, pants and the shoes you would wear to that meeting. Opt for a casual, comfortable, but professional look.

Accessories. I chose only one accessory: earrings, necklace, tie, scarf.

Make-up. If you wear makeup, opt for a natural look. Use foundation, mascara, and lipstick. It is better to have your hair tied up, so that your face looks good and your hair does not bother your face during the meeting.

Avoid:

• Very weak or very strong lighting. Neither the darkness, nor the direct flash of the camera.

• Ceiling lamps. Because they cast very harsh shadows on your face (like in a horror movie).

• Windows as background. You would be backlit and your image would not be seen.

• Bottom with very loaded elements (for example a clothesline with clothes drying, or a kitchen with too many utensils).

• Pet noises or other contextual noises. Do not use the microphone of the computer, but the one of a headset.

• Neglected personal appearance (messy hair, unwashed teeth).

• Fabrics with wefts (repetitive motifs or patterns).

• Intense make-up or too many accessories. They are distracting elements.

• Informal or home clothes (never pajamas, jogging pants or flip-flops).
